We buy pieces from writers who fit one of our five voices. If you have written useful, practical advice writing before, we would love to see a pitch.

What we buy

• Pieces that fit one of the five voices — see voices.
• 1,000–1,500 words. Longer occasionally, shorter almost never.
• Real, specific advice. Not personal essays. Not roundups. Not "5 tips for."
• A verbatim script, checklist, or number that helps the reader do the thing.

What we pay

• $0.60 per word, flat.
• Kill fee of 25% if we commission the piece and then choose not to run it.
• Payment within 30 days of publication.

What we do not buy

• Personal essays, memoir, or "my journey" pieces.
• Product roundups, gift guides, "best of" listicles.
• Sponsored content or advertorial.
• Pieces we can find already on the top page of Google for the same query.

How to pitch

Send an email to editor@adviceguru.com with:

• The subject line PITCH — [voice slug] — [working headline]
• A 3–5 sentence description of the piece and the specific reader problem it solves.
• The one number, script, or checklist the piece will contain.
• Two links to prior published work.

We reply within two weeks. If you don't hear from us in two weeks, treat it as a pass.

What we look for in a first pass

• The reader learns a thing they did not know before, or does a thing they had been avoiding.
• The voice is consistent from paragraph to paragraph.
• The piece would be too short by half if you took out the specific advice.
